Community Orchard

Llanelly Community Council, in partnership with Abergavenny Garden Centre, has had 18 fruit trees and many daffodil bulbs planted on the playing fields in Gilwern. A smaller number have also been planted in Clydach. The Council would like to thank Gavin and Ian at Abergavenny Garden centre for their help with this project. The Council has also identified areas within the playing fields that will be seeded with wildflowers which will further enhance or commitment to biodiversity. Community Speed Watch

A Community Speed Watch Group has been established in Gilwern to identify speeding cars through the village, Training is given for anyone who is interested in joining the current group of volunteers, all of whom are local residents. Grants for local children

The Ty Hooper charity is a local charity set up to provide financial support to children in this area who are either disabled or disadvantaged in some way. The charity usually meets twice a year and looks to provide financial donations of up to £50 for each application. New Cladding-Community Centre

The Community Centre at Gilwern has had a partial face lift with new external cladding with improved insulation. A photo is attached. The work was carried out by the local Brynmawr firm, Roofs R Us and funded in significant part by a grant from BBNPA Sustainable Development Fund. The Council would wish to thank Roofs R Us for its very efficient and effective work and to BBNPA for the generosity of its grant. Read More...

Skate Park

We reported cases of graffiti on the skate park in July. Since then, thanks to a generous grant from the Gilwern Village Tote, the Council has significantly upgraded the surface of the two main pieces of equipment in the Skate Park. Hopefully this will prevent further annual costly maintenance. However, it is sad to have to report that, no sooner had this been laid, than someone has sprayed graffiti once again on the skate park. Gilwern MUGA Floodlights
